Coronavirus (COVID-19)

If you are planning on travelling distance to attractions, we would recommend that you contact the venues directly in advance to avoid disappointment.

If you, or any of your party have a new persistant cough, or develop a fever of 38C, we would instead advise you to use the NHS's dedicated website for professional advice.

Melingriffith Water Pump

It lies in a conservation area. Technically a 'water lift engine', the only one of its kind left in the world! Installed in the 1790s to a design by Jessop and Rennie, it lifted water from the tailrace exiting the Melingriffith Ironworks, into the Glamorganshire canal. The canal was instrumental in bringing coal to Cardiff docks for export around the world. Thus Cardiff became prosperous, with much of its architecture reflecting its newly found wealth.
